How to get my phones on my network to use extensions

By mggofwen ·
Hello, I have some D-Link IP phones on my local Network and so far, I can make calls using the static IP address I assigned to them.
I would like to use an extension number instead for them to communicate.
The only hardwares I got for this project are the IP phones (D-Link) and D-Link 10 ports switches.
This is my first time setting up such a system. Thank you.

Without full model numbers no one can see if there is a setup manual or much else.

Besides that, what did the maker and seller tell you to do?

Re: extension number

The problem with the extension is that it needs to be unique and that other people need to be able to find you.

So somhow you need access to the world wide numbering system, so you're sure that your number (say: +1234567890) is unique (nobody else has it and nobody else will be able to use it) and registered (so that if I call it, I get connected with you)?

So what you need is a VOIP-system supporting a number range, like bigger companies have where you can reach each phone with it's own number. Unsure if your current hardware supports that.
