Partition Magic

By dale ·
I have a server that has SQL 2005 on the C drive, however, the C: drive is too small and I currently have two other 300gb drive on the same server that I would like to put about 10gb on the C: drive. Do you think that's a good idea? What problems might I run into?

I wouldn't do that.

Messing with the C drive can be a bad thing.

If you have 2 physical drives that are 300gb each I would consider a RAID1 mirror and move the SQL databases to that drive. That would give you back that space on the C drive and also give you some redundancy for the Databases.

Assuming you have hardware raid

a cpu based software raid would slow the database down a good bit. But in either case, you should not have the database on the same disk as your OS or page file.
