After selling over a million units of the original Eee PC with a 7-inch screen, Asus says it will launch the eagerly anticipated 8.9-inch screen model in May. Asus whetted the apetite of UMPC enthusiasts when it showed off the device at CES and CeBit earlier this year. rnrn
The new Eee PC 900 has an 8.9 inch display at 1024u00d7600 resolution, a 1.3 megapixel Web cam, and more storage capacity than the original 7-inch screen model. It will have a Windows XP version that will hold 12GB total flash storage while the Linux model will run with 20GB total flash. ZDNet’s Matthew Miller reports that the Eee PC should cost around US$650.
More details reported by Matthew Miller: “The Eee PC 900 runs with an Intel Mobile CPU (speed not given in the press release), has DDR II 1GB RAM module (again should be easy to upgrade), integrated WiFi, SDHC storage card slot, 3 USB ports, and a unique FingerGlide trackpad.”rnrn
The FingerGlide trackpad supports multi-touch similar to MacBook Air that lets you right and left or up and down using a two finger slide.
