Connected City Improves Quality of Life, Stimulates Economy
The City of Barcelona has been the capital of Spain's Catalunya region since the third century A.D. Their challenges are to stimulate local economy and enhance quality of life, improve communications among city departments and minimize government costs and improve service delivery. They chose Cisco to overcome these challenges. They have implemented foundation for mobility with Cisco wireless network, captured location of people and things to improve city planning and provide new citizen services and connected sensors for parking spaces, environmental monitoring and garbage bin fill levels. The results of implementing Cisco were revitalized city to attract businesses, improved access to information about the city for residents and city employees and reduced costs by increasing efficiency of parking, waste collection and other processes.
