Humboldt State University (HSU) has simplified management of its 3,200 PCs, laptops and tablets through the use of Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 configuration manager. With this tool, HSU has standardized its hardware, imaging process, inventory, application management, self-service software installations and security updates, which reduce support calls. These changes have also freed IT staff to focus on projects that enhance education. By using its Microsoft license, HSU avoids annual software costs of US$26,000. HSU employees can use the configuration manager software center to install security updates at a time that is convenient for them prior to the installation deadline, thus reducing the impact on productivity while ensuring that security requirements are met.
