What every media company wants, according to an insider, is to better understand and interact with its audiences. That's what one such company, PennWell, has achieved with a Microsoft SQL Server solution that gives it a single view across 150 brands. The solution also boosts company revenues by 20 percent - at a cost that is 90 percent less than the cost of an Oracle alternative. The company's datacenter had always been an Oracle shop, so in 2011 PennWell attempted to create its unified database with Oracle technology.
