Eli Lilly, a leading innovation-driven corporation, is developing a growing portfolio of pharmaceutical products by applying the latest research. Their challenges are to implement Unicode, an ASCII alternative that supports Asian character, to eliminate RISC platforms and virtualize wherever possible and support 50,000 SAP users and deliver performance that is equal to or better than the previous environment. They chose Intel to overcome these challenges. They have implemented HP ProLiant DL580 G5 servers with the Intel Xeon processor 7560 and HP ProLiant DL380 G6 servers with the Intel Xeon processor 5660 and 5620; EMC Symmetrix V-Max storage system with Intel Xeon processors. The results of implementing Intel were greater ability to expand its SAP footprint, multi-million-dollar savings, greener data center and increases performance.
