Faced with widely different aging PBX systems across 15 locations, and budgetary challenges in the face of increasing workloads, New Zealand's National Institute for Water & Atmospheric research (NIWA) seized the opportunity to dramatically increase productivity by improving communication and collaboration among their 650 staff and external associates by implementing Microsoft Lync Server 2013 with enterprise voice. Cost savings have been realized through the elimination of aging, inefficient PBX systems and their replacement with enterprise voice. Also, all internal calls now travel on NIWA's own IP network further eliminating wasted costs.
