Founded in 1917, RIKEN is Japan's largest comprehensive research institute in the natural science and is highly regarded for its innovative research in science and technology. Their challenges are to unify various network access methods used in different sites, facilitate VPN access from outside and reduce operation cost, use SSL-VPN that supports various devices and able to support sufficient number of users. They chose F5 to overcome these challenges. They have implemented BIG-IP Access Policy Manager (APM). The results of implementing F5 were unification of the SSL-VPN service with BIG-IP APM enabled users to access a single URL to start a VPN connection, greatly enhancing user convenience, the VPN operation was unified among all sites, lowering operational costs and troubleshooting became easier.
