When School District No. 71 (Comox Valley) wanted a cloud-based email solution in 2007, it chose Google Apps for education. The district later became concerned that Google was scanning student data in education accounts and realized it needed a new solution to comply with provincial privacy laws. SD71 chose Microsoft Office 365 with exchange online. This solution offers the privacy that the district needs and integrates seamlessly with its existing IT infrastructure. With Google Apps for Education, SD71 had an email system that was isolated from the rest of its IT infrastructure and required separate account maintenance. With Office 365, all of the district's systems can work together.
