Founded in 1908, The University of British Columbia (UBC) is a public research university in British Columbia, Canada, with over 50,000 students and more than 13,000 faculty and staff. Their challenges are to centralize IT storage across the university; consolidate data and services to improve operational efficiency and service quality. They chose NetApp to overcome these challenges. They have implemented a private cloud and transition to a service provider model. The results of implementing NetApp were reclaimed more than 2PB of storage capacity with deduplication, reduced storage management time by 75%, met performance requirements with 60% less hardware, maintained high availability for services with non-disruptive operations, focused IT resources on strategy and innovation and provided reliable, centralized data protection.
