Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Education faced an imminent power black-out for an upgrading of the electricity system - and severe interruption to the e-mail service for 6,000 staff. With the clock ticking, Microsoft and its partner R-Tech proposed introducing the Hyper-V virtualization system to host e-mails during the power cut - and astonished the ministry by doing exactly what they promised, on time, avoiding a loss of e-mail service. By keeping Hyper-V following the project, the ministry has been able to split its exchange server between the physical and virtual environments, which provides a back-up and reduces the risk of a future loss of service.
