It’s an unfortunate event when an employee becomes severely ill (or a family member undergoes such a calamity) and requires an extended sick leave from work, but companies should have a plan in place for these situations. This plan needs to ensure that both the employee and the company have a set of duties and responsibilities and provide a fair arrangement for all involved parties.
The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for offering extended sick leave benefits to employees.
This policy can be customized as needed to fit the needs of your organization.
All full-time employees and employees working at least 20 hours per week are covered by this policy. It does not apply to contractors, interns, volunteers, or temporary employees.
There are no exceptions to this policy except where permitted in writing by the HR department and/or a dedicated plan administrator(s).
