Video Surveillance Policy
Video surveillance is often a critical security feature for the purpose of monitoring both human and natural events (e.g., wildlife activity, hazardous weather or accidents/disasters). It can both prevent undesirable activity such as vandalism or theft, as well as provide details as to what occurred after the fact in the event such incidents take place. It can also serve to warn personnel of impending danger, and provide evidence to law enforcement or insurance companies.
The purpose of this policy from TechRepublic Premium is to establish guidelines for the proper use of video surveillance in safeguarding company assets and personnel.
From the policy:
Research and obey all applicable state and federal laws pertaining to video surveillance of employees, such as ensuring no violations of right-to-privacy laws.
Establish dedicated personnel responsible for the administration and monitoring of video camera activity. Include training for related employees and supervisors to ensure they understand the legal and operational details of the process.
Establish a response protocol for when video camera activity needs to be analyzed after an event occurs that necessitates investigation.
