Data Center Access Policy
A company’s data center serves as the veritable lifeblood of an organization. A data center houses the systems that run critical services that permit access into and out of the company’s networks and other elements the business needs to function correctly.
The purpose of this policy, written by Scott Matteson for TechRepublic Premium, is to provide guidelines for appropriate entry, presence and operations conducted within your company’s data center.

The following guidelines should be implemented:
The data center must utilize a sign-in/out log to track non-company personnel activities. This log should be periodically scanned and saved as a PDF file to make a digital record.
All individuals working in the data center, whether employees or external individuals, must follow all safety guidelines involving fire safety, environmental controls and equipment usage.
No work can be performed upon a critical production system without prior authorization using an approval chain such as a change request or production work order. Details of the work should be reviewed and agreed upon before approval to proceed is given.
