Hiring Kit: Game Tester
Game testing requires more than just the ability to play games. A successful candidate must be able to identify, isolate, and explain bugs and design flaws as part of a development team.
This customizable hiring kit, written by Mark W. Kaelin for TechRepublic Premium, provides a framework your business can use to find the right person for the job. The kit includes salary details, a job description, interview questions, and a job advert.

DETERMINING FACTORS, DESIRABLE PERSONALITY TRAITS, AND SKILLSETS
It is somewhat counterintuitive, but when searching for game tester candidates, it is important to keep in mind that the best game testers are not necessarily the best game players. The skills required to play a game well are not always the same skills needed to test a game for bugs, design issues, artificial intelligence inconsistencies, or other errors. In many instances, game testers will not actually play a game, so much as they will work a game.
In other words, instead of playing a game for fun, game testers review specific movements, actions, reactions, design elements, artwork, etc. The key skill of the game tester is the ability to see and understand what should happen, and then to provide developers detailed information about what does happen during play. A game tester is analogous to an editor reviewing a book or document. The separation of “play” and “work” takes concentration and commitment, and it is a skill that can be difficult to master.
