According to IDC, spending on cloud services will surpass $125 billion by 2018, as enterprises seek to reduce IT costs, increase agility, and take advantage of new opportunities like mobility, big data and the Internet of Things. In many cases, however, the push to the cloud is coming from outside of IT, and it’s leading to significant apprehension around data governance, security, and visibility.

IDC’s Americas Storage Services 2014–2018 Forecast reports that this anxiety is “driving organizations to align more closely with the storage community” to help design, build, and manage their updated environments and embrace the cloud effectively. In other words, they’re looking to industry and technology experts for answers.

We sat down with Laura DuBois, program vice president for IDC’s Storage Practice, and Greg Knieriemen, technology evangelist at Hitachi Data Systems, to clear up some of the misconceptions around successful cloud adoption and explore ways for enterprises to leverage cloud technologies fully.
