Beginning in 2010, the rise of Hacktivisim lead to a renaissance in DDoS attacks. Yet what makes the new breed of attacks so difficult to combat is that they employ constantly changing IP address sources, with attacks that specifically target both applications and existing security infrastructure such as firewalls and IPS. In addition, these attacks often serve as a mask for other types of security breaches making today’s DDoS attacks an increasingly serious threat.
