The authors never considered tracking the value of their candidate source and certainly never thought about measuring the profitability of each one of their clients. They relied on IT departments (if they even had one at all) to manage their desktop environments and keep their databases running. If they were lucky they could also provide the user's static views of business data. Today, the cloud, Smartphone's and data visualization tools have made data more accessible and easier to understand. For most small to midsized businesses, this has created a fundamental shift in responsibility for collecting, sorting and analyzing business data.
