A Case Study on Indian E.V.M.S Using Biometrics
With significant Indian federal funds now available to replace outdated electronic voting machine throughout the India are adopting paperless electronic voting systems with biometric applications from a number of different vendors. The authors present a security analysis of the source code to one such machine used in a significant share of the market. Their analysis shows that this voting system with the biometric is far below even the most minimal security standards applicable in other contexts. They identify several problems including unauthorized privilege escalation, incorrect use of cryptography, vulnerabilities to network threats, poor software development processes and rigging by using electronic voting machine.
