In this paper, the authors sketch a data-centric approach to avoid deadlocks of a business process. If dependencies between data values are neglected or modeled incorrectly, this can lead to errors in the control flow of the business process. They address the problem of detecting deadlocks which are caused by the improper handling of data. They show by example, how these deadlocks can be detected by means of a symbolic reach-ability graph. Under certain conditions, they can derive the correct dependency between the involved data values.
