Positioning technology is one of the key techniques in heterogeneous networks. In this paper, the authors assume a WCDMA/WLAN heterogeneous network scenario; when a multimode terminal exists at the edge of WCDMA, it can't obtain its location just using single WCDMA base-station ranging information. Focusing on this problem, they propose a new positioning method based on Genetic Algorithm (GA) combining with both WCDMA/WLAN ranging information. Simulation results show that this method has higher positioning accuracy than tradition methods and is more robust under various environments. This paper is to offer a theoretical reference for the research of heterogeneous network positioning.
