Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) consist of numerous sensor nodes which are spatially distributed having the capability to monitor physical and environmental conditions at different locations. WSNs are being incorporated in many new emerging applications in various domains. One among such domains is the healthcare environment which continuously monitors physically ailing patients. WSNs have high packet flow near the sink due to convergent nature of the upstream traffic. Congestion causes packet loss due to which the overall channel quality is deteriorated. Drop of packets in buffer, increased delay, decreased throughput and excessive energy consumption are some of the problems faced due to congestion.
