Wireless multimedia sensor networking has made significant advances in both research and practice in recent years. In addition to traditional data services, content-rich multimedia applications (such as videoconferencing, VoD or VoIP) are increasingly being deployed in this type of networks. However, multimedia services need QoS support to maintain user satisfaction. This paper investigates the potential of the Compressed Sensing (CS) paradigm for video streaming in wireless multimedia sensor networks. The objective is to study performance limits and outline key design principles that will be the basis for cross-layer protocol stacks for efficient transport of compressive video streams.
