Fingerprint, a unique and persistent form of biometrics, is a feature pattern of a finger. Various algorithms have already been suggested for fingerprint recognition and verification. The algorithms, in which only the minutiae are matched, do not prove to be enough reliable and efficient. In this paper, the fingerprint minutia information is integrated with the edge detection technique. The results of minutia-based matching are compared with the proposed method. The False Acceptance Rate (FAR) and False Rejection Rate (FRR) fall considerably in the proposed approach.
