Real-world mobile ad-hoc networks are often partitioned into multiple connected components separated from each other by large distances - for example, large-scale rescue operations with teams at different sites. A key paradigm for communication in such networks is message ferrying, where mobile agents such as unmanned aircraft traverse the network geography and carry messages from senders to receivers. End-to-end latency is an important metric for routing in mission-critical settings and ferry routes have to be optimized to minimize messaging delays.
