The design of wireless sensor networks for distributed applications is the most challenging task due to the factors such as limited storage on nodes, variable data arrival rate and high energy cost of communication. In most Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), the battery is the sole energy source of the sensor node. The sensor nodes are expected to work on batteries for several months to a few years without replenishing. Thus, energy efficiency becomes a major issue in WSNs.
