A blurred fingerprint is one which has very less number of minutiae ((i.e.,) ridges) in it. It is difficult to extract features from blurred fingerprints. So, the authors propose a very simple and efficient method for extracting more features from blurred fingerprints. They found some good results when extracted valleys instead of ridges from blurred fingerprints. They tried this research with four different filters and found that in some blurred fingerprints, only valleys can be extracted but not ridges. Keywords-Blurred Fingerprints, Ridges, Valleys, Gabor filter, Gaussian filter, Wiener filter, and Median filter.
