Digital filters basically, FIR are used in many real-time and critical applications. And hence their implementation in FPGAs and ASICs is a tedious job to do. Various constraints in terms of area, power, critical path and etc. has to be solved. Distributed arithmetic is an efficient concept developed in the field of Hardware implementation of filters. The conventional MAC technique has been redefined and it's much reformed version is Distributed Arithmetic (DA). This paper studies various basic architectures of distributed arithmetic. SDA and PDA techniques as well other structures of performing DA has been explained.
