In this paper, the authors present a detailed overview of Quality of Service routing metrics, resources, and factors which affect performance of QoS routing protocols. The strengths, weaknesses, and applicability of existing QoS routing protocols are considered for studying and comparison. Routing matrices are used to classify QoS routing protocols. Mobile ad-hoc networks are infra-structureless, flexible, self-organizing which adjust themselves dynamically into network topologies influencing the QoS which can be enhanced by combing routing protocols with techniques like cross layer, ant colony, load balancing and piggy techniques.
