A Unified Model of Satellite Optical Transmission With Correlated and Heterogeneous Pointing Errors

For the optical inter-satellite communication system with by pointing errors in the azimuth and elevation axes, conventional models assumed either independence or homogeneous variances. This paper deals with the most general case and develops a unified model for correlation and heterogeneous variances. Regarding the instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio as a random variable, with two sets of transforms, the authors derive its probability distribution function. Then, they show that the outage probability can be minimized, subject to a specified transmitter power, by appropriately adjusting some system parameters such as the transmitter gain.
