Active Queue Management Algorithm for TCP Networks Congestion Control

Active Queue Management (AQM) can potentially reduce packet loss rate in the Internet. It works at the routers for controlling congestion, where packets are dropped before queue become full. A new Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) router-based Active Queue Management algorithm, named NEWQUE AQM supporting Explicit Congestion Notification (ECN), is proposed. The objective of the new algorithm is to improve performance of congested routers by keeping low queuing delay, low percentage packet loss and high throughput. The NEWQUE AQM is implemented with help of ns2 simulator. In addition NEWQUE AQM works quiet well for different TCP versions, such as TCP/Vegas and TCP/Newreno.
