The authors present the design of a P2P live streaming system with transcoding strategy and adaptive coding rate choice algorithm. Their study is based on the environment of hybrid P2P network, which includes superior peers and ordinary users in the same streaming system. In the proposed design, the superior peers can properly transcode the original data into some coding rates which suit the video formats of ordinary users and the upload capacity of source server. Using the proposed adaptive coding rate choice algorithm, the system enables flexible video quality to support various system scales, adapts to the peer churn and highly utilizes upload bandwidth.
