Since solar energy can be harvested periodically, using solar power in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) requires a different approach to energy consumption from typical battery-based WSNs. Meanwhile, it is also challenging to supply enough energy required for heavy operations such as video data encoding and transferring in battery-based WSNs. Therefore, the authors address the problem of determining the quality of encoding sensory data on the solar-powered sensor node. Based on a simple energy model of the solar-powered node, proposed paper controls the quality of encoding data adaptively in the way of using the harvested energy maximally.
