The timely Link Layer (L2) trigger can facilitate the upper layer mobility management protocols and accelerate the handover in Fast handover for Mobile Internet Protocol version 6 (FMIPv6). Firing the L2 trigger in a timely manner however is difficult to be obtained in the practical applications. The late L2 trigger leads to a missed detection and deteriorates the perceived service quality of mobile users. To address this issue, a Performance Compensation scheme for the Missed Detection of L2 trigger (PC-MD) is proposed, where the IP prefix in the Router Acknowledgement (RA) messages received by the Mobile Node (MN) within a well-defined time frame is firstly analyzed to promptly determine the missed detection and then a set of specific performance compensation measures is developed.
