Virtualization has become apparent in the 1960s as a practice to enhance the use of expensive computing hardware. Virtualization targets to reduce the complexity associated with deployment and maintenance of client devices, which eventually helps IT companies to reduce system management costs. In this paper, the authors propose the virtualization concept expanding into many aspects of IT world. There are various virtualization technologies which include storage, desktop virtual platforms, server consolidation, virtual desktop infrastructure and application virtualization. This is the basic prerequisite for cloud computing and its applications.
