WSNs are now being widely used for mobile target tracking in various applications, like surveillance and security, vehicular traffic monitoring etc. There are at present, a host of tree-based, cluster-based and prediction-based tracking algorithms for mobile target tracking. Here the authors present an energy-optimized, predictive mobile target tracking algorithm which introduces the concept of border sensor nodes deployed around the perimeter of the test area, to reduce the battery usage of sensors inside the test area.
