A major challenge facing ocean exploration and surveillance is how to quickly and accurately communicate the data obtained by the sensors or unmanned system to a surface ship or shore-based station. The primary reason for this challenge is that radio frequency waves do not propagate well underwater. And acoustic waves don't provide sufficient bandwidth. Optical communication systems are mostly preferred for terrestrial and underwater for their high bandwidth, feasibility and reliability. The main focus of this paper is to improve the communication underwater which includes the effects of scattering, dispersion and absorption. In this paper, an underwater wireless optical communication technique is proposed for short range applications using high luminance Superflux LEDs, Laser and Phototransistor.
