VANETs have particularly important applications in sparse and rural areas because of the lack of fixed communication infrastructure. In rural areas, vehicle densities are low and roadway communication infrastructure is scarce, leading to long periods where vehicle-to-vehicle or vehicle-to-roadside communications is infrequent, interrupted, or simply not possible. Channel between vehicles is necessary for realistic modeling of VANETs and the development of related technologies and applications. The applications range from safety and crash avoidance to Internet access and multimedia. These include frequency allocation, standards for physical and link layers, routing algorithms.
