Annotation and Visualization in Android: An Application for Education and Real Time Information

By using Augmented Reality (AR) applications, users can get more information while interacting with real objects. The popularity of the Smartphones and the ubiquity of an Internet connection within modern devices, offer the best combination for these kinds of applications, which can pull content from heterogeneous sources. This paper is to show the architecture and a basic implementation of a prototype for an AR application that displays information about physical places as comments overlaid to the place left there by other users, but that also encourage in-situ content creation for collaboration. These applications can also be used in order to improve the interaction between students and physical places, getting facts, or associating quizzes to a specific location; tourism guides, promotions of products, just to mention a few.
