Assessment of U.S. Military Vehicle "Blackout Mode" Wavelength (Cyan 505 +/-5 nm)

The objective of blackout mode is to reduce the signature of the vehicle. By reducing the amount of light used by the crew the authors have also reduced the signature of the vehicle during these operating conditions. With the improper "Blackout" mode color, more light output is required to be used to compensate, thus decreasing vehicular security. Prior designs used a green LED with a wavelength of 520 nm. This wavelength met the requirements of blackout mode according to MIL-STD-1472F, Table XVI, which specifies a blue-green light with wavelengths shorter than 600 nm.
