For any literature study, one major task is to identify who wrote it and find out other documents written by the same author. However, there is a good amount of possibility of having exactly same names referring to different identities. Common problems when searching for publications by author names are misspellings, name abbreviations, and format differences. This paper attempted to solve this problem by combining database SQL queries with the error detection and correction properties of string comparisons. The use of these combination of methods increased the amount of relevant records retrieved while reducing the number of irrelevant records compared to other well know string matching techniques.
