In this paper, the authors aim to present a comprehensive study for various asset tracking technologies. Their study scales down from introduction of chief underlying tracking and localization principles to technologies and systems at higher level. At lower tier, they introduce schemes like triangulation, Time Difference Of Arrival (TDOA) or trilateration, multi-lateration, Angle Of Arrival (AOA), doppler, Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), beam forming, etc. At surfacetier, their primary focus has been laid on RFID (Radio-Frequency IDentification) and Bluetooth based technologies while an overview of other technologies like satellites GPS, GSM or data connectivity, Wi-Fi, etc.
