Changes in information technology strive to fill the gaps in access and control of information and knowledge. Even when these gaps are bridged, several fundamental challenges remain such as how do they apply knowledge for value added and competitive advantage; how do they convert information into knowledge; and how to use knowledge to convert challenges into opportunities in the business sector. Knowledge management provides solutions for facing up to these challenges of accessing technology and developing the abilities to manage knowledge. The building of a knowledge management can be viewed as a lifecycle that begins with a master plan and ends with a system structured to meet knowledge management requirements for the entire company.
