Computer simulation offers the potential for improved understanding of the local and global mechanisms that determine the response of structures to severe loading. The research presented here focuses on development of a finite element model using ABAQUS software to be used in investigating the behavior of reinforced concrete exterior beam-column connections. Laboratory investigation of reinforced concrete beam-column connections indicates that component failure may result from inelastic material behavior of plain concrete and reinforcing steel. Thus, model development includes investigating and characterizing the behaviors of these materials.
