Coplanar Waveguide-fed Rectangular Slot Antenna for Ultra-Wideband Application

In this paper, the authors describe a tunable Co-Planar Waveguide fed (CPW) rectangular slot antenna to work within Ultra-WideBand (UWB) for the future communication systems. This slot antenna of area 3020mm2 is designed on a FR4 substrate and its operation was tested in terms of return loss and gain. The developed antenna shows VSWR less than or equal to 2 bandwidth of 800MHz in 0.7-1.51GHz band as well as bandwidth of 6.06GHz in the UWB band of 2.76-8.83GHz with near omni-directional characteristics and good radiation efficiency of more than 92% for the major band spectrum and a gain of 2dBi and 4.2dBi for the center frequency of 1.1GHz and 6.06GHz respectively.
