These databases are the backbone of many web companies. The Google big table architecture has spawned the development of a wide variety of open source \"NoSQL\" database implementations. Many of these implementations are built on top of the Apache Hadoop distributed computing infrastructure that provides distributed data storage and replication services to these databases.
