Delay Constraint Dynamic Rate Control for Video Stream Multicast Over IEEE802.11 WLANs

Over the IEEE802.11 WLANs, the lowest transmission rate is selected for multicast to guarantee that all the members of the multicast group can properly receive the packets. However, transmitting the packets at the lowest possible physical layer transmission rate will heavily penalize those members who are capable of receiving packets at the higher rates and also will degrade the overall network throughput. In this paper, the authors propose a delay constraint dynamic rate control algorithm for video stream multicast which dynamically controls the transmission rate of the video packets according to the users' receiving capability and the priority type of video packets.
