Detection of Misbehaving Packet Droppers and Modifiers in Wireless Networks Using an Adaptive Protocol

Security is one of the most challenging issues in the field of communication networks. Denial-of-Service (DoS) attacks on Wireless Networks (WNs) can deplete network resources and energy without much effort on the part of an adversary. Packet dropping attacks are one category of DoS attacks. In a wireless networks packet dropping and modification are more common attacks that can be launched by an attacker to disrupt communication. Current techniques for detecting such attacks need to monitor every node in the network. Once they detect malicious nodes that drop packets, a new path has to be found that does not include them.
