Cloud computing has emerged as one of the most influential paradigms in the IT industry in recent years. Since this new computing technology requires users to entrust their valuable data to cloud providers, there have been increasing security and privacy concerns on outsourced data. The authors propose a dynamic audit service for verifying the integrity of untrusted and outsourced storage. Their audit service, constructed based on the techniques, fragment structure, random sampling and index-hash table, can support provable updates to outsourced data, and timely abnormal detection. However, to protect data privacy, sensitive cloud data has to be encrypted before outsourced to the commercial public cloud, which makes effective data utilization service a very challenging task.
